The Junior 8-9 Exceeders curriculum is designed to introduce robotics to children aged 8 to 9 years old using Lego EV3 Mindstorms platform. Students will use a variety of sensors (Color Sensor, Touch Sensor, Ultrasonic Distance Sensor, Gyro Sensor) to program robot platforms to accomplish given challenges. Students follow series of courses to learn basics of robot programming using a simple drag-and-drop software after which they have an opportunity to join Exceeders Curriculum which begins with text-based programming.

JR103: Junior Advanced Exceeders III

Students are introduced to a more advanced robot platform and programming software (Lego EV3 Mindstorms) which will allow for more advanced projects. The basics of motor control and programming loops and statements are introduced to perform class challenges relating to space exploration.

JR104: Junior Advanced Exceeders IV

Students expand their knowledge in programming and robotics by learning to program a puppy’s motors and graphics screen to display various reactions for different scenarios. Sensors are used to detect different conditions that will generate different reactions by the puppy robot.

JR105: Junior Advanced Exceeders V

A fun space exploration challenge is assigned to reinforce the fundamentals of programming and robotics taught in previous courses. The Explorer robot is used along with various motors and sensors to navigate through difficult terrain. Students are introduced to various applications of robotics and develop teamwork and presentation skills through this challenge.

JR106: Junior Advanced Exceeders VI

Students are assigned a capstone project using a new robot design to perform an advanced project using multiple motors and multiple sensors. Projects will be determined by the instructor to encourage students to think critically, apply problem solving skills and advance their programming skills..
